RACE REPORT
Sunday just gone (19th) St Coca's - Kilcock hosted it's very 1st 10 mile road race which falls exactly 10 weeks before the Dublin City Marathon hence the start time of 10:10 am. This event is going to be a sell out next year, it was superbly organised by St Coca's AC with Martin and his gang leaving no stone upturned. As with any race organising - it takes a lot of time, energy, commitment and support which St Cocas had in abundance along with a good team to help make things happen.
This is a very fast flat course with the last 4.5km as flat as you can get along the canal finishing just on the edge of the town with a lovely cool down through the village to the club where a huge selection of refreshments awaited to be devoured.
Just over a massive 500 participants lined up for this event eagerly waiting to run the roads ahead, many with DCM planned so this was fitting in nicely with the training plan, many more just looking to up their distance and this was the perfect race to do that.

This new fast flat course lead to many PB's and lots of smiles as they crossed the finish line. As with any race - the distance has to be respected especially for the longer races like today. You could see from today's field of athletes that this was most definitely the case with club representation from all over the country from Sligo to Sportsworld,, from St Finbarr's Cork to Sli Caulann,, Dunboyne to Drogheda,,Naomh Mhuire Daingan - Offaly to Navan - Meath, was lovely to see all the singlets from all the different clubs around the country.
As this was the 1st (of many) year of this event today set the records for breaking next year (2019)
The male winner was Kilkenny City Harriers athlete Thomas Hayes in a blistering 51:06,, Conor Bradley from City of Derry took 2nd place with Coner McCauley from the other end of the country - Leevale AC taking 3rd place. well done guys.
