RACE REPORT
This Years Spar Fitlive Run Series - Cork Airport Runway 5k was the biggest success to date. This was the 3rd year that Cork Airport hosted this 5k event. Over 2,100 runners booked themselves to take on the midnight run. The unique event created a superb atmosphere as runners started to arrive at 9pm to check in. The formalities were similar to taking a flight overseas. All runners needed to be checked in 2 hrs before the event.
A fantastic atmosphere was created with music along with a good brisk warm up to keep the runners warm and on their toes. Karl Henry took the participants through their paces to ensure they were ready for their unique run. Once the last flight landed, the Airport air space was closed down allowing runners take to the runway. When the runway was given the all clear the 2,000 plus runners ran the full length of the runway and back again to the same start/finish line area. This was a real fun event that was enjoyed by all. The increase in numbers certainly proved it's popularity.
This years winner was Kevin O'Leary and the female winner of the race was Brigita Lukste
