Inner City RC 5k

Inner City 5k celebrated it's 5th year of running. Within a very short period of time this event has grown rapidly and matured into one of the most unique running events in the country. Dwayne Edgar, a local from the Inner city (Henrietta flats), who set up the club during Covid has really made a mark in the Innercity. His enthusiasm and love of where he comes from has certainly helped his community in so many ways.

Over the years Dwyanne has built up relationships with the local Gardai and Dublin City Council, who have helped bring his event to an extremely high level. It's staggering and hugely inspiring how he has brought so many people and groups together within Dublin's innercity.

Sports Direct have also been a great backer and supporter of the Innercity Running Club events. We have all been brought along with his infectious desire to deliver great events with a major focus on fun, entertainment and bringing people together. If you check out the Innercity Running club Instagram https://www.instagram.com/innercityrunning/ or Fb pages you can see the enormous energy that the event delivers. From 7.45 am Henrietta flats was hopping with music, drums, Sax players and lots of dancing.

The event itself was sold out yet again this year with over 900 runners and children signing up for the 2 day events. We had an overseas winner Essarghini Ayoub from Morocco who clocked 16:15. Anto Brady of Coolock RC was 2nd in a time of 16:27 . Anto has been a great supporter of the race from day 1 and deserved his 2nd place. In 3rd place was Sebastian Hansen.

The women's race was won by Raheny Shamrock A.Cs, Zoe Quinn in a time of 19:14. In 2 nd place was Caroline Hailgney in a time of 20:24 and Chloe McHugh was 3rd woman home.

A big part of the event is the connection with the community and an ethos that the race is for all. 14 wheelchairs took part in the 5k this year headed up by Team Cobey (wheelchair team) who have been part of the Innercity Club from its inception.

Already, we cannot wait until next year's event. Well done to all the Innercity Club members, the Gardai and Dublin City Council along with Athletics Ireland who granted the permit.
