RACE REPORT

The East Cork Harbour Marathon 2019 was a record sell out event with over 1,300 runners signing up for what is now one of Cork's leading events. It has also become an award winning event voted by runners all over the country. The evnet has 3 distances for participants to take part in, Marathon, Half Marathon and 10kk. There is huge focus and emphasis on creating the best possible experience for runners and their families. This was an event to be enjoyed by the whole family with lots on offer to entertain all ages. This was not just about running. Games and other activities were available in Race HQ Grounds Aghada GAA. The events main purpose is to raise funds for Marymount Hospital in Cork.

Weather conditions were blustery but dry, which added to the overall experience feel good factor.

The 10k was the first event to cross the finish line with Gary Walsh of Bweeng Trail Blazers taking top sppt. Jennifer Walsh of Carraig Na Bhfear A.C. was the female winner.

The Half Marathon winner was Kevin O'Leary of East Cork AC. The female winner was Liz Nyhan of West Waterford A.C.

The Marathon winner was Tomas Baker of Navan AC with Jean Lucey winning the female category. This course was not the easiest to contend with. Runners for both the Half Marathon and Marathon encountered some challenging sections.

This event is growing from strength to strength each year. This has been possible from the huge efforts made by the local community and neighbouring communities, who turn out every year striving to make every year better. A large number of local businesses also help sponsor the event enabling the majority of funds raised to to the the chosen charity Marymount Hospital in Cork.

Age category results were yet again very strongly contested.
