Carlingford 5k

RACE REPORT

Glenmore A.C hosted their annual 5K in the stunning coastal village of Carlingford, Co. Louth. This years event attracted over 550 runners from both sides of the border. This long standing club has created a must do 5k road race for runners. The word has spread the this a flat fast course, high quality athletes to test yourself, a warm welcome feel with a great atmosphere. This is a unique event where their is a huge spread of clubs from North and South of Ireland.

The coastal town now in its peak tourism period added to the buzz about the village. All pubs bars and restaurants were empty as athletes teared through the village towards the finish line. The quality of racing and athletes meant that there was a constant flow of runners all battling against each other for age cat and team prizes. There was a wall of noise the from the first runner crossing the finish line to the last runner.

To cap off a great night the course record was broken by 3 secs. Yared Deresse of Carrick Aces gave the crowds lots to shout and scream about as he managed to break the record in a time of 14:26. The narrow streets created a deafening sound as they pushed him across the line.

The Ladies winner was Laura Graham of Mourne Runners.
