The Barringtons Hospital Great Limerick Run is now the fastest growing participatory event in Ireland with over 13,000 race entrants registered in 2016. According to an economic and social impact report commissioned by Limerick City Council, 49% of respondents stated that the event was the main reason they started physical exercise.

Limerick is Ireland’s third largest City and is the hub of social, cultural, and economic activity in the Mid West. Located on the banks of the majestic river Shannon it is easily accessible by motorway, intercity rail, and air. The City is recognised as the sporting capital of Ireland and received the title of European City of Sport in 2011 and National City of Culture in 2014.

A medieval City with a rich Georgian heritage and large ethnic population has delivered a real international dimension and the Government has designated the City as the first national ‘City of Culture’ in 2014.
