Ballintotis 4 Mile Road Race

RACE RPORT
The Ballintotis 4 Mile just keeps giving and giving. Numbers were yet again incredibly high. Nearly 1,1000 signed up for this year's 4 Mile. 2019 was the last time that this small community witnessed so many people taking to the roads of Ballintotis.
One of the reasons among many contributing to this event's popularity is the real sense of community, love and attention given to participants. The level of organisation is astonishing. The level of high quality athletes that also attend make the race itself very exciting. It never disappoints year on year. This east Cork village comes alive every year in April.
The race was just electric with so many fine athletes on show. Pre race it looked mouth watering as all the local big guns were taking to the line. The race was close among the top 6 athletes until the in form and Michael Harty pushed on and came extremely close to breaking the course record (19:18) after a national record for an over 40 athlete for 5k last week in Kilkenny. Michael showed his class again. The atmosphere was top class as spectators roared Michael and the lead runners home. In 2nd place was another East Cork AC athlete Tim O'Donoghue and Niall Shanahan of An Bru Ac was 3rd
The women's race winner was pre race favourite Lizzy Lee of Leevale AC winning in a time of 22:19. Linda O'Sullivan was 2nd and Breda Gaffney was 3rd.
One of the most enjoyable aspects of the after race is the food that is handed out that is just out of this world. Home baked food is on offer with a smile and welcome for everybody. Well done to John Cashman and his team for another fantastic event.
