RACE REPORT

A beautiful sunny August morning in stunning West Cork - where it is said "the sun always shines" , well it shone brightly today.

Just over 350 runners turned out this morning to take part in the 3rd running of this slightly challenging 10 mile and dash of a 5km race.

Preparations were well underway in the early hours with sandwiches being almost made to order, race number pick-up and a fab Tech T-Shirt  good music to wake everyone up, glorious sunshine and of course - the finish line in place.

With great enthusiasm the crowds welcomed home each and every runner from both races, with comment like"water!! gimme some quick", "wow, that was a challenge" and "loved it"  provided a real feel good factor for the event. 

The winners of the 5km were Eric Curran from Leevale AC in a time of 14:56 and Ronnie Barry from Bandon AC in a time of 19:34.

The 10 mile winners were;

Alan O'Shea

from Bantry AC in 55:00 breaking his own course record by a whopping 7 seconds set last year.

The ladies winner was

Nollaigh O'Neill

from Leevale AC in 65:09

-This was a shade outside the record, accompanied by Eammon O'Hannon.

This event is going from strength to strength every year and is definitely one to put on your race calendar for 2017 but book early as it will fill fast.

Well done to the Clonakilty Road Runners on producing a fabulous event.
