RACE REPORT
The WHM half marathon in Derry had a record number for their annual Half Marathon event. Over 2,200 runners signed up for one of Northern Ireland's premiere events. This also included a Relay Half Marathon with 3 team members.The Race start was in the historic Ebrington Square. Derry Strabane Council were the organisers of this hugely successful race. Weather conditions were breezy for the runners to contend with. The race was well supported by local running groups form all over the province.
Freddy Sittuk of Rahney Shamrock AC (Dublin) was looking for a treble of consecutive wins. He achieved this with a tight race to the finish with Andrew Annett of North Belfast Harriers.
The female was no surprise with Anne Marie McGlynn of Letterkenny AC taking top spot. Anne Marie also broke the ladies course record.
Age categories were also warded for the Main Half Marathon event. The Ulster Half Marathon Championships were also part of the event. Scoring was based on the first 3 teams for both male and female. 3 team members were needed to score based on time.
