RACE REPORT

The Tralee International Marathon was another great success today with over 750 people registered for the day. While events all over the country were being called off the brave souls in Kerry would not let the weather beat them.The event which hosts a 5k / 10k / half marathon and full marathon attracts participants from all over the country and further a field.

On a bitter cold morning the Full Marathon took off to do a lap of the lake before being met by the half marathon to hit the roads of Tralee. While these runners were out on the course the 5k and 10k races set off and there were some impressive times produced considering the gale force wind that whipped around the wetlands.

5k Winner was Donal O'Callaghan in 17:41 with Niamh O'Mahony taking the female title in 19:40.

10k winner was Cyril Stack in 38:34 followed quickly by Denis Culloty of Ferrybank AC with Sinead Tangney of Sportsword RC coming home in 3rd position and 1st female.

While the 5k / 10k participants had the wind to contend with the hard marathon and half marathoners had the snow too which added to their challenge. In flying form Alex O'Shea took the title for the marathon in a time of 2:38:22, Alex is currently on a streak of doing 32 marathons in 32 Counties in 16 days! Next home was Derek Quinn from host club Tralee Harriers followed quickly by Mick McKenna.
