Tom Brennan 5K Road Race
RACE REPORT
2018 has arrived with the Tom Brennan 5k kicking off the New Year. A huge number of participants signed up for the New Years day event that is a well established event in the Phoenix Park. The Host club Liffey Valley AC have made this a must do event for runners, joggers and walkers. The race attracted some fine Athletes along with casual runners looking to start the year off on the right foot.
This was again a record breaker for sign ups with just under 700 registrations. Numbers have been increasing year on year showing the events popularity. This was also the first event of the Lord Mayor's 5 Alive Challenge, which attracted a large number.
The event was well supported by many clubs from all over Dublin, Meath, Louth, Kildare, Offaly, Wicklow, Tipperary and beyond.
The race was close run with the top 4 athletes giving each other a good test of character. The winner was Valdas Dopolskas of Balbrigggan & District, followed by Kevin Moore of Dundrum Tipperary in second. 3rd and 4th placed went Eric Keogh and Louise McCarthy.
The Women's race was also packed with talented Athletes. Ciara Durkin of Skerries AC had a comfortable win with Niamh Devlin of Dundum South Dublin 2nd and Niamh Boland of Crusaders in 3rd.
The host club had a good day in the team categories taking 2nd in the Men's and 1st place in the Women's team placings. Celbridge AC won the Men's team prize.
