The Togher A.C 5K in Cork was a Christmas cracker with the biggest event to date in their history. Over 1,000 signed up for this years event that sold out weeks in advance. This has become a favourite in Cork over the festive period. The race attracted both the fast runners and the casual runner making this a great race for all. 

There was large support from local clubs but we did see club members from Crusaders in Dublin make an appearance and other clubs from outside of Cork. The race started in the heart of togher at Supervalu and Finished on Deanrock Rd near St. Finbarrs GAA. The GAA grounds were race HQ and after refreshments.

The race itself was competitive with the 17 runners hitting under 16 mins and a constant flow in chase of the leader and winner Sean Doyle of Cork City AC. Sean was one of the favourites coming into the race and ran extremely well to hold off Nathan O'Leary of Leevale A.C. and John Durcan of Togher. All 3 were  tipped in many quarters before the race started. Sean ran 14:54 and Nathan 15:02. John Durcan ran 15:05.

Michelle Finn had the current course record of 16:05 for women that she set in 2021. This year she smashed her own record clocking 15:49. This was a big scalp for the Leevale athlete coached by Feidhlim Kelly of Dublin Track Club. 

It was a clean sweep for Leevale on the women's podium. Louise Shanahan was 2nd with a time of 16:19 and Sinead O'Connor in 3rd with a time of 16:39.
