Star of The Sea Michelle McKiernan 5K
RACE REPORT
The Michelle McKieranan 5k hosted by Star of the Sea AC. (East Meath) provided another great evening of fine racing and family entertainment. The club always creates a great atmosphere and manages to attract a strong local attendance along with neighbouring athletics clubs providing a great mix of fun and competition. The Race is held in memory of the late Michelle Mckiernan who passed away in recent years. Funds from the event also go to local charity Balbriggan Cancer support Group.
It was great to be back for a real event to remember Michelle and to celebrate her life. She was an an integral part of the club and very much adored.
The night started with some kids races at 7pm, which provided great fun.
At 8pm the main race started and we had some fine racing to look forward to.
The men's winner was Peter Somba of Dunboyne AC in a time of 15:22.
The women's winner was won by Karen Costello in a time of 18:00 on the nose. There were prizes for the top 5 male and female and 2nd in each age cat.
We also had the Michelle McKiernan Perpetual Cup for the ladies teams with 3 to score based on times
