RACE REPORT

The East Meath Club, Star of the Sea AC attracted a record number of participants to their annual 5k event. Just under 500 participants came to the village of Stamullen to support this very popular race. Many of the participants were local or form local Meath, louth and Dublin Athletics clubs.

The evening started off with the increasing popular kids races which has very much become part of the event. Race HQ and finish line was located on the grounds of the local GAA club which provided great facilities for participants.

The main event was won by Peter Somba of Dunboyne AC who will be running Cork Marathon this weekend. This was a nice warm up for his last run of the Season before returning back to Kenya. Peter has become very popular at events and we wish him all the best when he plans to return for Dublin Marathon. The ladies race was won by Zoe Quinn of Raheny Shamrock AC who has had some great victories lately at local races. There were age category prizes for all ages form Junior, Senior and every 5 years upwards from 40. Team prizes for clubs were also up for grabs making this a very competitive race. All winners on the night were awarded their prizes by RTE's sports presenter Daragh Maloney.

The after refreshments were out of this world. Well done to all who provided a great feast of food and beverages for runners after their hard earned run. Well done to Star of The Sea AC and all who took part.
