RACE REPORT

St. Cocas A.C. hosted their high profile 5k, which is renowned for been fast. That's exactly what we got again this year. We had over 720 registering for this lightning fast 5k race. Clubs from all over the country attended. It is certainly one of the highlight 5k races in the country. With so many top club athletes looking to take to the line and run fast times can sometimes cause problems at start lines. However, the host club St.Cocas's  managed the start incredibly well. Athletes were lined up and had plenty of room to psych themselves up for their race of the year.

The strength and depth of field was as good as it gets anywhere and more. The race went off at a rate of knots. Spectators who were at the start would struggle to make it back to the finish line 800m away if they were to walk, such is the speed of the race.

We have had a great summer in the mens 5k races especially with Tadgh Donnelly making is return from Iona, New York scholarship and the return of Ian Guidan from Canada. Both of these athletes have benn going at each over the last few weeks swapping placings on the countries roads and various 5ks.

Tadgh from Drogheda & District made sure of his win here finishing with a commanding lead. He clocked 14.34. Ian from Clonliffe Harriers was 14.48 and in 3rd place was Jeremiah Sheehan of North Cork A.C. in a time of 14:58.

We had a deluge of runners coming thundering behind the top 3. We had 26  runners under 16 mins showing the quality and speed of the course. We had a good contingent from Cork and making the podium. As mentioned we had Jeremiah  Sheehan 3rd in the mens race and Michelle Finn of Leevale produced a great performance to win the women's race in a time of 16:03. The women's race was stacked with talent throughout and very strong. 2nd placed woman was Grace Lynch (16:12) of DSD A.C. and in 3rd place was Lisa Madden of Sportswoprld A.C.

Donore Harriers were the mens team winners and the women's team winners were Sportsworld RC.  Well done to St. Cocas for another great race. You can check out all the race stats and results below.
