Kilcock 10 from 10 threw up one of the results of the year. Efrem Gidey of Clonliffe Harriers did it again with an incredible 10 mile time of 47:11. This time is extremely rare to see in Irish road racing. John Tracey ran 46:25 in Portsmouth, England in 1993. However, on Irish roads this was something that you just don't see. Anyone who witnessed today's finish by Efrem should treasure the experience.
Efrem seems to thrive on the roads. Last year in the Dunboyne 10k, Co. Meath, he ran 28:28. This year in the same location as today in Kilcock, Efrem ran 13:47 for 5k. This was the Kilcock5k.
The race itself, hosted by St. Coca's AC was another superb race with a big congrats to the club putting together a great experience and show. We see that events like today hosted by strong traditional clubs have the know how and experience on how to give runners the best experience possible. Support from many other clubs that were present today back up why good club events are thriving this year.
Just under 500 registered for this 10 mile with just under 385 finishing. As Efrem stole the limelight we also saw the current Irish National Marathon Champion Martin Hoare of Celbridge A.C. taking 2nd place in a time of 52:28. In 3rd place was Stephen Fay of Raheny Shamrock A.C. in a time of 52:52.
Raheny Shamrock A.C. men took the team award with Drogheda & District A.C. 2nd and in 3rd was Blackrock A.C.
The women's race was a close affair with Niamh Devlin of Dundrum South Dublin A.C. winning in a time of 1:01:35. Sportsworld RC had 2 athletes in 2nd and 3rd. Noreen Brouder ran 1:01:41 and Aoife O'Leary ran 1:01:46.
The host club St. Coca's A.C won the women's team prize with Dunboyne A.C. and Drogheda & District A.C. placing 2nd and 3rd.
Well done to St. Coca's A.C. for another fast race and high level of organisation. We will look forward to next year already.
