RACE REPORT
The much eagerly awaited St.Coca's AC, Kilcock 5k held up to its expectations. Athletes had a great nights experience. This was one of the countries first Road Races of 2021.
The field of talented athletes was of the highest calibre despite National Track championships also been held over the same weekend. The demand for places was incredibly high and snapped up withing miniutes.
We had some very recognisable faces on the start line for the men's and women's race. With Frank Greally on commentary we certainly had an excitimg event. This was an extremley fast 5k with runners running at break neck speeds. They race was off at 8pm and over in a flash such was the very talented field participating.
Clubs from all over the country attended with a big contingent from kildare clubs, St. Coca's AC, Celbridge, Newbridge, Clane. From Meath Navan AC. From Dublin Crusaders AC, Bros Pearse, Raheny Shamrock, Donore Harriers, Lucan Harriers, Portmarnock and Blackrock AC. Mullingar Harriers also had a large contingent from Westmeath.
The race was fiercely contested. The mens winner was Evan Fitzgerald of Clonmel AC in a time of 14:53 with many runners coming thundering behind. It was a fantastic sight to see some real race action at it's very best. Mick Fogarty of Ferbane AC also had a fine run and placed 2nd.
