St Cocas 5k
RACE REPORT
Kilcock 5k was another rip roaring fast race with pbs smashed all over the course. Over 620 registered for this very popular club race. The St. Cocas club from Kildare have built a great reputation for a fast and high quality race. Even with Nationals this weekend we saw some great performances.
The race was done and dusted after 35 mins. The build up to the race had a real air of excitement as runners lined up. Athletes at the front were just bursting to get away. Then bang, they were gone in a flash as they battled for early positions.
We didnt have to wait too long for the top runners to come storming up the finish straight. Ian Guiden who has been in superb form took it home with a large margin of time over 2nd and 3rd. Ian clocked a finish time of 14:12. We had some great tussles from thereafter. Cathal O'Reilly was 2nd just edging Brian Conroy of Clane AC. They were now coming thick and fast.
The women's race was won by Mary Mulhare of Portlaoise AC in a smashing time of 16:36. In 2nd place was Lisa Madden of Sportsworld RC and in 3rd was Kate Purcell of Raheny Shamrock AC. Like the men's race they were thundering across the line in quick succession.
Well done to all athletes for providing some real top class entertainment for onlookers. Also well done to St. Cocas AC for another great race as we look forward to 2023 already
