Sportsworld Terenure 5 Mile 2025

Race Report

The Terenure 5 Mile was another cracker of race and event. The race sold out over 2 weeks prior to the event. This is a long standing club hosting a long established event. Over 1,600 signed up for what is a hugely anticipated event in the local area. It strikes a great balance of ticking all the boxes. We get some very fine club athletes along with the general running community. This mix provides for a great event. The weather was yet again fantastic like most years with this event. We had full road closures that added to the experience for runners. We had some great excitement with kids races that started at 8.30 prior to the main race, which started at 9.30 am.

The race itself had some good quality in both the men's and women's races. Both pre race favourites won the race. Pierre Murchan of Dublin City Harriers controlled the race. He dictated at his own pace and gradually kept extending his lead. He won the race in a time of 24:11. Tomas Fitzpatrick of Tallaght A.C had a great performance to finish 2nd in a time of 25:22. Peter Somba who is a great supporter of the race was 3rd in a time of 25:30. The Men's team winners were Raheny Shamrock A.C. with Brothers Pearse in 2nd and DSD A.C in 3rd. The Masters team winners were MSB A.C. in 2nd place were Rathfarnham WSAF and Civil Service Harriers. Sportsworld is one of the rare clubs that award masters teams, which is great credit to them. Most road race runners are masters athletes and top marks to Sportsworld for recognizing this.

The Women's race, like the mens had a clear winner. Meghan Ryan of DSD A.C won the race in a time of 28:54. In 2nd place was also a well known and talented lady Rachel Birt of Analee A.C (Cavan) in a time of 29:59 Ciara Brady of Raheny Shamrock A.C. was 3rd in a time of 30:15

The women's team winners were DSD A.C with Crusaders in 2nd and Raheny Shamrock A.C. in 3rd place. The Women's Masters over 40 team winners were Rathfarnham WSAF. 2nd was DSD A.C and Brothers Pearse were 3rd.

A big call out must be noted on the incredible support around the course of Terenure. The village was a wall of noise with a samba band beating drums. This added to the atmosphere and excitement. All sections of the course had great support from Terenure to Kimmage and back to terenure on the 2 lap course. The 2 laps gives spectators a lot to enjoy and at the same time adds to the runner experience.
