SPAR Omagh Half Marathon & 5K Fun Run

RACE REPORT

A Superb event in Omagh Co. Tyrone today for the 28th Spar Omagh Half Marathon and 5k. Over 3,700 runners signed up for this, the biggest ever attended event. Runners started to arrive from early morning to the Omagh Sports & Leisure Complex. A great atmosphere was building all morning. Every type of Runner, jogger and walker lined up for the 11 am Start. Runners from all over Northern Ireland traveled to take on the challenge. The Start and Finish line areas provided huge entertainment for spectators.

It is easy to see why this event keeps growing year on year. The organisation and facilities provided were of the highest order. The Race was won by the very popular Stephen Duncan of Omagh Harriers, and the female winner was Catherine Whoriskey. Another great aspect of this event was the hundreds of runners who ran for the group called "Run For Enda" who was a local runner who tragically died. The luminous green shirts belonging to the group certainly brought light to the event.
