RACE REPORT

 A sell out Spar Cork Airport 5k run hosted by Cork Athletics and Athletics Ireland was huge success. Just under 2,500 runners signed up for this unique event. Runners got the chance to take to the Cork Airport runway for a 5k dash up and down the run way. Runners started to arrive from 9.30 pm as if they were departing on flight. They checked in on time and enjoyed some great entertainment as they waited for the last flight to arrive. The pilot of the last flight even got in on the action as he also took to the start line. 
On a wet and windy night the spirits of the crowds were not dampened as they warmed up with the thanks or Karl Henry and then took to the runway.The participants were in great company with newly crowned national marathon champion Mick Clohisey and Olympian Sonia O'Sullivan joining the run.
 
The winner of the event was  Jonathan Finn of East Cork AC with  Aine  Roche of Clonmel AC leading the women home.
