RACE REPORT
The Rathfarnham 5k was back with vengenge today. This was just an iuncreible race attended by runners from all over the country. The Rathfarnham 5k has a repuatrion for fast times and high quality athletes taking to the line. The 5K distance is normally not a popular distance at this time of year with many marathons taking tpalce over the next few weeks. This bucks the trend for 5ks at this time of year.
Atlletes come to Rathfarnham to race and achieve pb times. No athletes side steps the competition as they know that competition will improve their performance. Just over 1,100 runners signed up for the event. The race was not only for the fast club runners but also attracted many locals who just wanted run, jog and walk for a great morning out.
The race was fast and furious as the runners made a speedy start down hill for the first 1.2k and ran by the finish line. We did not have to wait too long to see them come back to the finish again. Eoin Everard and club mate Ger Forde of Kilkenny City Harriers led the field. The top 4 athletes were all neck and neck right to the end with just a few seconds separating them. Eoin clocked a time of 14.31. folowed by Ger and Dundrum athlete Kevin Moore.
They rest of the athletes came down the roads like steam trains. So many great times were recorded. The womwnd race was also a hot affair with Mary Mulhare of Portlaoise AC taking top spot in a time of 16.05. In 2nd place.
