Record numbers attended today's Rás Na h Éireann in Oldbridge, Co.Meath hosted by Dunleer A.C. The weather conditions consisted of heavy rain and extremely harsh winds. Amazingly runners still attended in huge numbers. Local clubs from Ace A.C. Ardee & District A.C., Boyne A.C., Cilles A.C., Drogheda & District A.C, Dunleer A.C. Redeemer, St. Gerards, North East Runners A.C. and many more battled it out. Clubs from further afield also made the journey such as Ballyroan Abbeyleix and District A.C. Tullamore Harriers, Lusk A.C.
The appetite for XC has been tremendous this year. Apart from Schools the XC season is coming to a close. There is 1 more on March 20th hosted by MSB A.C. in Abbottstown. The underage races were very competitive with some fine performances by the athletes on show. Well done to all clubs and parents for making the trip and contributing to a great day. The Adults races were also filled with some high quality athletes.
The Women's race was dominated by Kate McDonald of Ballyroan, Abbeyleix & District A.C. from Laois. A large contingent from the club made this a great day out. 2nd place was Claragh Keane of DMP A.C. and 3rd was Meabh Eakin of Dunleer A.C. The team winners were Dunleer A.C. with Lusk A.C. 2nd and 3rd Ardee & District A.C.
The Men's Race was very competitive throughout with some great action for spectators. It was not until the last lap that we could start to see the top bunch split and the possible winners. Eoin Symth of Tara A.C won the race with a great break to win with a good margin in the end. 2nd was Cathal O'Reilly of Kilkenny City Harriers and 3rd was Joe Cocoman from Nass A.C.The team winners were North East Runners with Drogheda & District A.C. 2nd and Dunleer A.C. 3rd.
Well done again to all who took part and a special thanks to Dunleer A.C. who organised a great event under extreme weather conditions. They pulled out all the stops as they even had a tractor to clean the roads and pull one MyRunResults van out of the field. Thank you Dunleer A.C.
