RACE REPORT

The Portmarnock 5 Mile & 5k hosted by Portmarnock AC attracted it's largest ever number of participants. Over 660 runners along with over 100 kids all lined up in Naomh Mearnog GAA grounds where their races started. This was an ideal location and safe for families. The event has grown year on year, which tells a story in itself of how well organised and popular this event has become. Many local athletics clubs supported the event in large numbers. Lusk AC, Raheny Shamrock AC, Dublin Front Runners, Dublin Bay Running Club, Sloggers to Joggers and many more attended. This is a unique event with most of the course taking the runners along Portmarnock Beach. The first 1.5k of the their run was aided by a head wind and on road. Then the challenge started as they entered onto the beach. There was a strong wind but this was mostly a cross wind. Beach running is not easy but most seemed to have enjoyed this fantastic and stunning run,

As Runners came through the finish line they were rewarded with a free ice cream cone rather than the traditional medal. This seems to a big hit over the last couple of years.

The event hosted a 5k and a 5 Mile. The 5k was won by John Canning of Newbridge AC and the female winner was Annette Kealy of Raheny Shamrock AC.........

The 5 Mile was won by Colm Rooney of Cloniffe Harriers . The female winner was another Raheny Shamrock AC athlete Zoe Quinn
