Paddy Cheshire Memorial 5k

RACE REPORT

The first year of the Paddy Cheshire Memorial 5k hosted by Sean O'Mahonys GAA & Permitted by North East Runners A.C.proved to be a great success. This was very much a local and family event remembering Paddy and appreciating his contribution to the club. He was a great GAA club man, Athletics man, and friend to many people in the area. It was fitting that the race started just outside Paddys house opposite the GAA grounds. Paddy's wife also started the race with a loud whistle to get the runners on their way.

Children's races started early in the evening with crowds gathering form 3pm for a 7pm start. The football pitch provided for an ideal race HQ, music and place to gather for participants. Over 350 registered for the adults race.

This years winner of the first Paddy Cheshire race was Peter Somba of Dunboyne A.C. in a time of 14:57. The Ladies winner was Catherine O'Connor from East Down A.C. in a time of 18:19.
