The Midleton 5 Mile was a cracker of a race with over 350 signing up. We had a wet misty evening but this did not seem to put runners off at all. Host Club Midleton A.C. put on a fine event with some incredible after food provided in the Midleton Green Market shopping Centre.
No wonder so many turned up on a wet night. The race itself was very close with 4 runners going toe to toe. We had some great and very entertaining commentary which was fed from the lead car. All of the top 4 were in contention until the last mile. With 400m to go Mark Walsh took off and finished strong to win the race. In 2nd was Andrew Forristal of East Cork Ac was 2nd and John Meade was 3rd.
The women's race was won by Kate Veals who is more commonly known in International Walking circles. In 2nd was Carmel Crawley of Bandon A.C. 3rd lady home was Niamh Cronin of St. Finbarrs.
This was another great race in the East Cork region.
