Mayo AC Vodafone 5K Summer Series, Foxford
Race report straight from the winner Rich Gorman of Sligo AC:-
''Sean and Michael took off together at the gun. After a few hundred metres I caught up alongside . The 3 of us ran together covering each others tracks. After 3 k myself and Sean were beginning to break from Michael and at 4k we had a 2 man race. I began to just put enough to pull away but Sean was close however held on for the win with Sean just 5 secs behind. Michael was 25 secs behind winner to take 3rd.''
The first race in Mayo AC 2017 Vodafone C&C Cellular 5k Series got off to an excellent start in Foxford this evening. Conditions were good, overcast but dry. There were some really fast times over the one lap course, and many happy runners filled the finish area with an excited buzz.
Richard Gorman (Sligo AC) was first over the line in 15:52, with just five seconds to spare over Sean McLaughlin (Westport AC). Michael Canty (Moy Valley AC) was third in 16:17 and James Ryan was the first Mayo AC finisher in 4th place in 16:56.
Sarah Syron (Mayo AC) ran a great race and led the women home in a fast 19:17, twenty seconds ahead of Ciara McDermott (Moy Valley AC), with Anne Marie Staunton (Mayo AC) third in 20:48.
There were 160 finishers. Well done to the Foxford organisers led by Ambrose Gaughan who set the standard for the Series with all points excellently covered. There was great support from the local services.
