Mallow 10 Mile Road Race
RACE REPORT
A stunner of a day in Mallow, Co. Cork for the Annual 10 Mile Race with over 1600 runners (25%increase on 2017) lining up for what was going to be a hot race both in temperature and talent . In the men's section of the race there was tough competition between the top 3 with Alan O'Shea, Michael Harty and John Meade, the excitement was building on the finishline as regular update were coming out over the PA system. Eventually the race was won by Michael Harty in 53mins dead, followed very closely by Alan O'Shea which John Meade steeling the 3rd spot.
The ladies section was really a 2 horse race with battles between Leevale's Michelle Finn and Youghal AC's Aoife Cooke with Michelle steeling the top spot. Both these ladies were well and truly inside the magical 60mins. 3rd and 4th places were equally as tight results wise. This is a real club event with possibly every club in Cork represented, and many runners from further afield trying their feet at this classic distance, Meath, Dublin, Kilkenny, Laois, Waterford, Tipperary and beyond were very well represented.
Many non club runners also attended this extremely well organised event by MallowAC. With the loss of Ballycotton this year this event sold out very early leaving many people disappointed as the 10 mile road races have become very popular for the seasoned and the new runners.
