Lusk A.C hosted their 4 Mile and the Thomas Ashe Dash Kids races today with huge success. The event is only up and running since 2018 but it has already made its mark as a well established event in the racing calendar. This is what you call a must do event in North Dublin. It has everything you would want and wish for as a participant. The participant is very much part of how the event is planned out and put together. It's all about welcoming and bringing families, local community, clubs and high level athletes to Lusk Village. Other Local clubs came out in force to support their neighbours to acknowledge Lusk A.C as a great club who contribute greatly to Dublin Athletics.
We see great support among North Dublin Clubs attending each others races. Raheny Shamrock A.C., Clonliffe Harriers, Balbriggan & District A.C., LSA, Fingallians A.C., Sloggers to joggers, Drogheda & District A.C, Garristown Flyers, Skerries A.C. and more. These clubs were all out in force today.
The atmosphere for the Thomas Ashe Dash kids races got things hotting up nicely. Tomorrow's young athletes gave spectators some great excitement and entertainment.
At 3pm on the dot the main 4 Mile race took off. The race is spectator friendly as the runners come back to the Green area where the race starts and finishes in Lusk village. Ian Guiden of Clonliffe Harriers won this years race in style in a time of 18:57 clipping under the 19 min mark. This was Ian's final race on Irish soil before he heads off to Canada. Good luck to Ian and safe travels and we hope to see him back soon. In 2nd place was Sean Cronin also from Clonliffe Harriers. In 3rd place was Ieun Hopkins of Brothers Pearse A.C.
The women's race was won by Kate Purcell of Raheny Shamrock A.C.. Kate raced smart to take this win. Trim's A.C.'s Edel Gaffney A.C. lead the way for much of the race having to do most of the work. Kate kept on Edel's tail conserving energy and took off in the final stages to win a very tactical and close race. Both women have been in great form over the last few months.
