EVENT REPORT

Nic Dhomhnail Breaks Course Record

The Londis Adare 10k proved yet again to be another great event and competitive race. West Limerick A.C. are the hosts of this superbly well organised road race. This event sold out many months ago as tickets sales went red hot as soon the event opened online.

It's easy to see why this race sells it's 1,000 places extremely quickly. The course is a good honest course that has some up and downs bringing some nice fast stretches too. The runners start from Abbey Road leading on to the iconic and picturesque Adare village main street and from there it's a right hand course. This makes it easier to manage for the the host club and for runners too.

The race had some quality in both the men's and women's races. William Maunsell of Clonmel A.C. had great tussle with Niall Shanahan of An Bru A.C. William put the foot to gas in that last Km to win by a comfortable margin in the end. It was his desire and drive to push hard that brought him home in a time of 30:32. Niall was 2nd and further distance back was John Kinsella of Bilboa A.C. in 3rd. The men's team winners were local and host club of the race West Limerick A.C. who ran this race tactically perfect. They all worked incredibly well finishing 10th 11th, 12th 13th and 14th. This was a master class of team running.

The women's race was stacked with quality. West Limerick A.C. had a very successful day as Ide Nic Dhomhnaill won the race and smashed the course record in the process in a time of 33.59. Ide had hit some great form lately and this was evident by the high quality that finished behind her in 2nd and3rd place. Irish XC star Mary Mulhare of Portlaoise A.C. who was part of the Irish Womens' European team success a few months back was 2nd. In 3rd place, was another very much inform athlete Kate McDonald of Ballyroan Abbeyleix. Kate had recent success in Ras Na hEireann and 2nd in the National Inter XC Championships 2 weeks previously. The women's team winners were Doneen A.C. from Cork lead by Shona Keane.

Well done again to West Limerick A.C. for another great 10k race. We look forward to this race again next year.
