Leinster Master & Intermediate Cross Country

RACE REPORT

This year's Irish Life Masters and Intermediate Cross Country was hosted in DKIT Dundalk. As ever huge numbers attended the Masters events. The conditions were pretty good for Cross Country as the underfoot conditions have been worse on this course. There was a light mist for most of the adults races which did not seem to deter the Athletes. Well done to all took part and well done to involved who made this a success. DKIT. Louth Athletics, Athletics Ireland and the provinces and clubs who contributed.

All races in this years event were tightly contested. The Masters offered particular competition among the athletes, due to the age categories, club and county team awards.

The first adults race was the ladies masters event. Martina Kiely of St. Finbarr's , Cork took top spot with some close finishes behind her. The masters men's race was won by Mark Mckinstry of North Belfast Harriers. Again like the masters ladies we had some tight finishes further down in a Field of 241 finishers.

The intermediate ladies winner was Cherly Nolan of St. Abban's A.C of Laois with a strong finish to take the title. The Men's Intermediate race was extremely competitive with the top 4 giving spectators some great action and suspense. It was not until the last lap that we could start to see split with Sean O'Leary out sprinting the Leinster Cahmpion Mitchel Byrne of Rathfarnham WSAF.
