Irish Runner 5 Mile

RACE REPORT

The Irish Runner 5 Mile and Family Fun Run took place in the Phoenix Park this morning in glorious Summer Sunshine. A fantastic day for a fantastic event. The Irish Runner 5 Mile was celebrating it's 15th year of running. Over 3,000 runners started off on Chesterfield Ave and made their way around the Park to finish on Furze Rd. This event attracts a very loyal runner base who have supported the Irish Runner 5 Mile and Magazine over many years. Frank Greally who was the brain child of this event has certainly created a master class event. Runners had an experience not to forget through the high level of organisation by Athletics Ireland and The Irish Runner Magazine. Each runner soaked up the incredible atmosphere that was created through music, commentary and the sea of Red and Black T shirts that make up the colours of the Irish Runner Magazine.

This year saw the introduction of family Fun Run which was a huge success. The Family run attracted over 600 participants who will hopefully one day take on the challenge of the 5 mile.

The race itself was graced by some top Athletes packing up the front of the field. We have had a fine race with the top 6 runners household names in Irish Running circles. The winner was Kevin Maunsell winning his battle with Sean Heir. Check out our race video below of the Finish between these top Athletes.

The Female winner was Luara Shaughnessy followed by Siobhan O' Docherty and Raheny Shamrock ACs Annette Kealy
