Athlone Flatline Half Marathon 2016

RACE REPORT

The 5th Running of the Athlone Flatline Half Marathon yet again gave runners a truly great day out. Just under 1,000 runners registered for the event that sold out... This event has gained high praise over the years and this year did not disappoint. Each year the quality that is provided for runners keeps rising. The central location of Athlone attracted runners from all over the country. The weather conditions were ideal for running. The atmosphere started to build from 8am when runners came to collect their race numbers and special edition long sleeve T Shirts to mark the 5th anniversary of the event. Athletics clubs from Meath, Westmeath, Dublin, Kildare, Offaly, Sligo, Mayo, and many county clubs more were in attendance to take on the Flat fast course. The mix a runners who participated ranged from those who were out to run competitively, right down to those who were just out to walk and enjoy what the Flatline event had to offer, which was loads of Fun..

As ever the Finish line was electric with music and some great commentary. There was a real big event feel to the start and finish line areas. Runners were treated with medals, Mufiins and much more as the crossed the line. Age categories were awarded to male and female over 40, 50 and 60.
