Dublin Simon 5 Mile

RACE REPORT

The Simon Fun Run 5 mile hosted by Dublin Simon Community was another great Success today in the Phoenix Park. This is a long established event that is extremely popular. Runners, joggers and walkers come out every year to support the Homeless charity. With homelessness at an all time high and winter looming this event is an important fund raiser. The event also highlights the awareness of the homeless situation in Dublin.

The weather held out for runners with dry conditions managing to remain for the duration of the race. This was a real family event with a tented village treating all participants to beverages, burgers, music and entertainment. The Simon Community had huge support from local schools. This has been a strong trade mark of the event. This is one of Dublin's highlight events in the running calendar. A high degree of organisation was very evident at today's event. This is also another key aspect to the events success.

The race also attracted some of Dublin's well established Athletics clubs. Raheny Shamrock AC, Donore Harriers, Dublin South Dublin AC, Brothers Pearse AC, Crusaders AC, Civil Service Harriers, Clonliffe Harriers and many more were in attendance. Rahney Shamrock AC took 1st and 2nd places in the male category with Ian Conroy and Simon Ryan. Simon had an extremely good week with the birth of his son Natan this week. The ladies category also had 1 and 2 from the same Club, with Fiona Clinton and Meghan Ryan of DSD AC
