Dublin Athletics Junior and Senior XC championships was hosted by Clonliffe Harriers in Trinity Sports grounds in Santry. Well done to Clonliffe Harriers for putting the course together at short notice. The day started off with the underage race from U9 to U19. Great numbers turned out for the underage races. The results for the underage will be available on the Dublin Athletics website.
The weather conditions were ideal with little or no wind and bright sunshine greeted clubs and athletes. This helped create a great atmosphere. The course it self was spectator friendly made up of 1,000m and 1,5000m loops. As a spectator athletes could be seen at all times from within the venue.
The Junior women's winner was Emma McEvoy of DSD A.C. and the club team was also DSD A.C. with Clonliffe Harriers 2nd and Dublin City Harriers 3rd.
The Junior men's race was Scott Fagan of MSB A.C. The team winners was Raheny Shamrock A.C. with Clonliffe Harriers in 2nd and 3rd was Dublin City Harriers.
Then at 1.15pm the senior womens race got ready to go. The excitement and nervous tension among athletes could be felt. This nervous tension triggered a false start as the athletes were eager to get off to a good start. This was a good close race with Dublin City Harries looking in great shape for top team from early on. They ran extremely well as a team and in tight group. The winner of the race was Meghan Ryan of DSD A.C.
The Mens race was 10,000m, which can be a gruelling test of fitness and stamina. The course held up very well which helped the athletes. Sergiu Ciobanu who had been in some great form recently ran the perfect race. From lap 2 he started to pull away from the field. Paul O'Donell of DSD A.C. was giving Sergiu a run for his money and keeping him on his toes. In the end Sergiu always looked comfortable. Mitchel Byrne of Rathfarnham WSAF finished very strong in 2nd place with Paul O'Donell in 3rd. The wining team was Clonliffe who fielded a strong team. DSD A.C. and Rathfarnham were 2nd and 3rd.
The next Dublin Xc will be the Intermediate Championships on November 28th.
