Dublin Novice XC Championship

RACE REPORT

The Dublin Novice XC was filled with some great racing excitement and entertainment today. Over 600 juveniles ran before the Novice Championship in Tymon Park. For the vast majority of these races the weather held up.
As the day progressed the wind increased with some persistent rain. Conditions were tough for the athletes. In the women's race Dublin City Harriers packed up strong along with Clonliffe Harriers Crusaders and Raheny. In the women's race Dublin City Harriers have enjoyed some up and coming talent over the last couple of years and have replenished their athletes well in the women's age categories. Faye Dervan was their first runner home and the overall individual winner. In 2nd place was Aoife Coffey of Lucan Harriers and in 3rd was Lucy Jones of Dublin City Harriers.
The men's race threw up some incredible drama with a superb finish to go down as one of the best finishes to a race in recent years. Shane Spring of Raheny Shamrock AC and Eddie O'Connor of Brothers Peatse treated us so one heck of a finish. There was nothing between both athletes as they raced all the way to the line. Both athletes threw themselves across the line. In the end the 1st place position was shared between both athletes. Ben Coughlan of Clonliffe was awarded 3rd place.
Brothers Pearse also won the men's team award with Clonliffe 2nd and Crusaders AC in 3rd. The event was hosted by Sportsworld RC who organised a great and memorable day.
