Dublin Athletics Masters Cross Country

RACE REPORT

Dublin Masters CC in St. Anne's Park attracted another large crowd today. Numbers have been increasing dramatically over the last 3 to 4 years.

Despite much rain during the week, the under foot conditions were pretty good for athletes. The weather itself was bright, crisp and cold.

The Women's 3k race started at 1pm with over 155 taking to the line. Competition through the filed gave for a very exciting race. With only 2 laps there was no time to settle in. The overall race was very well contested between Crusaders, Sportsworld, Raheny Shamrock and Lucan Harriers Athletes. After a good battle Adrienne Jordan of Crusaders won the race. The Team winners were Sportsworld RC, 2nd Crusaders AC and 3rd Raheny Shamrockock AC.

The Men's Race had over 280 athletes take to the start line. The men's race consisted of 4x 1,500m laps. The race was packed with some fine athletes. Age categories were very hotly contested along with the overall top positions. This was an extremely tight race in terms of individual glory and team scoring. From early on Raheny Shamrock AC athletes John Dunne and Ian Conroy teamed up to stay at the top of the field with Karol Cronin of Sportsworld also challenging. In a tight race comprised of many front runners the Raheny duo took the honours with John Dunne and Ian Conroy taking the top 2 positions and Karol Cronin finishing in 3rd.

The team prizes also went to Raheny Shamrock AC for both over 35 and 50 teams. This was a good day for the host club.
