Cloyne 5k Road Race Cork

RACE REPORT

The 9th Annual Cloyne 5k attracted another big contingent of Runners, Joggers and Walkers. This event in East Cork has become a highlight event in the village of Cloyne. The event was set up to raise funds for the community of Cloyne. It has been very well supported over the years and this year was no exception. This area is a hot bed for running and the show of quality runners was very evident. Many local clubs such as Midleton AC, East Cork AC, Agahada RC, Youghal A.C, Ballintotis, Ballymore Cobh, Cloyne GAA, Leevale A.C, Mallow A.C, Eagle A.C, Watergrashill A.C and many more were all in attendance. The race was over in a flash due the amount of top runners on show.

Another reason as to why runners finished in quick time, was the race to get their hands on the fine food on offer in the local school. This was very much a strong community showing not only from the village itself but from neighbouring villages of East Cork.

The race itself was another competitive affair. This years race went right to the wire as Alan O'Shea of Bantry A.C and Paul Moloney battled it out all the way to the finish. The atmosphere was electric as the 2 athletes raced towards the finish. We knew there was a a tight finish before they even made sight on the home straight, as the live commentary from the lead car could be heard from a far.

Spectators were treated to a real cracker for a finish. The pack were not far behind as they came whizzing through the finish. The female winner was Evelyn Cashman of Youghal A.C

Age category results were yet again very strongly contested.
