Castlepollard 5k Report
The Castlepollard 5k went ahead this evening after a 1 year absence. This was always a fast race and this was no exception. Just under 200 ran with some great racing and battles all through the field of runners. Age categories were hotly contested as ever for this race.
Runners came to Castlepollard from many different clubs and counties. Navan AC, Mullingar Harriers, Kells AC, Clonliffe Harriers, Celbridge AC, Rathfarnham WSAF, Raheny Shamrock AC and many more were on show.
The out and back course favoured the runners on the way back with the last 1km extremley fast. Most runners ran their fastest km in that last section. Ben Brunton of St. Brigid's and Kieran Kelly of Raheny Shamrock AC gave us an exciting finsish. Both athletes took within the last km. Ben took the jump at about 900m to go and to take on the lead and held out by 1 second. Both ran under 15mins (14:58 and 14:59)
The ladies winner was Rose Finnegan of UCD AC in a time of 17:01.
Well done to Northwestmeath on hosting another great race.
