Carlingford 5k (Glenmore AC)

RACE REPORT
Carlingford 5k always attracts a large number of runners from all over the Northeast, East and North of the country. This year was no different as just under 500 flocked to this extremely popular race. Raheny Shamrock, Drogheda & District, Armagh AC, Galbally RC, Newcastle & District AC, North Belfast Harriers, North East Runners Dundalk were just some of the clubs who attended.
The scenic village turned into a cauldron and theatre of noise for tonight's finish line as runners came thundering through the narrow streets to the finish line. Hundreds of onlookers got to see some great action creating an incredible atmosphere for both runners and spectators.
The race attracted all age groups from kids races right through to awards for the over 70 age category. It was very much a family friendly event along with a competitive edge.
The race was packed with some fine athletes for both men and women. Runners took to the start line and fought for every inch to get away fast. This was a fast race. Ben Branagh of St. Malachy's AC won the race in a course equalling time of 14:23.
In 2nd was Kieran Kelly of Raheny Shamrock AC and in 3rd was Neil McCarten of East Down AC. The men's team winners with 3 to score were North Belfast Harriers.
Emman Mitchell of Clonliffe Harriers won the women's race in a time of 16:30. In 2nd was Robyn MCkee of Annadale Striders. In 3rd was Caitlyn Harvey, also of Annadale Striders. The women's team winners were, not surprisingly, Annadale Striders.
This was another incredibly fast race hosted by Glenmore AC. We look forward to 2023 already.
