Race Report
After a 1 year absence Bweeng Trail Blazers got up and running with their annual 5k. The race has become a highlight event in the Cork Calendar and we could see why with the quality of athletes that was on show. Both the men's and women's race was full to the brim with talent. This also indicated the hunger and appetite for a return to races. Many of the participants had not taken part in a real race event in nearly 2 years.
Some nerves among the runners were felt as due to the lack of racing xperience. This Bween 5k certainly helped some of the cobwebs to be blown away. There was a great sense of excitement with smiles wide on the faces of runners.
The race itself was held with 2 waves based on the participants' predicted times. Wave 1 started at 10am with wave 2 starting at 12.30. The race was extremely competitive with so many battles among the athletes for top honors. The men's race was won by Tim O'Donoghue of East Cork AC in atime of14:29. Lizzie Lee was the ladies winner hitting 16:00 flat. This was race wher all athletes could push themselves as there was always eomeone to tuck in with or chase.
Well done to Bweeng Trail Blazers on hosting an incredibly well organised and professional event. This enabled participants to have a thoroughly enjoyable event.
