RACE REPORT

Bohermeen AC hosted their 5 mile race after several years since it was last held. Bohermeen AC was also the last Meath club to host a road race just before Covid hit in March 2020 with their Half Marathon. They have now been the first Meath club to get back to action. Athletes were delighted to be back to the Meath venue. Clubs from Meath, Louth, Cavan, Dublin, Kildare, Longford, Westmeath & Wicklow took to the start line.

The race had some very talented athletes in both the mens and womens races. We were given some great race action and excitement. Oh, it was just incredible to see real racing back on the roads.

The Womens race was won by Sile O'Byrne from Parnell AC in a time of 28:01. 2nd was Densie Toner from Clones AC and 3rd was Catherina McKiernan of Annalee AC.

The mens race was also another hot race with Mick Clohisey and Kevin Dooney both from Rahney Shamrock AC going to toe to toe right to the line.

The winner was finally Kevin Dooney just edging Mick in a time of 23:53. 3rd place was Martin Hoare of Celbridge AC.

The race also had a team element with Patrick Bell memorial cup for the men and the Mallon cup for the womens team.

Teams were 4 to score for both, along with a further and additional Paddy Murtagh cup for 6 to score for the mens.

The mens team winners with 4 to score was Raheny Shamrock AC. The womens team with 4 to score was Mullingar Harriers.

Age cats prizes were awarded to the first person in each age category along with the top 6 overall for both men and women.

Great credit must go to Bohermeen AC for getting this race off the ground and up and running. Hopefully there will be many more to come.
