Balbriggan Cancer Support Half Marathon & 10k

RACE REPORT

The Balbriggan Cancer Support Centre annual St. Patrick's day 10k and Half Marathon took place this morning in challenging weather conditions for participants. This event which is supported very well is growing year on year with over 600 registered for this years event. The addition of a tech t-shirt brought a lovely burst of colour to an overcast morning.

The 10 mile walkers set off the proceedings with the 10 mile runners and 10k participants following shortly afterwards. Waiting patiently for the participants to come home the mass of volunteers made sure there was a great spread ready for everyone once they crossed the finish line.

The 10k winner was Stephen Kelly from Drogheda & District AC, followed quickly by Killian Murphy of Piranha Tri and fellow club mate Paul Smith completing the top three home. The female 10k winner was Rachel McCormack of Drogheda & District AC, with Aoife Parella of Dunboyne AC taking second position and Rebecca Carolan of Boyne AC 3rd female to finish.

Overall half marathon winner was Eoin Callaghan of Star of the Sea who kept an impressive lead throughout the race, Paul Lynch was 2nd and Ronan Dunphy 3rd.

This event is a fantastic fundraiser for the support centre and the sense of community on the morning is great to be part of. The event encourages all abilities to participate with a 10k walk option so everyone can support.
