EVENT REPORT

The AON Mullingar Half Marathon and 5k was another record sell out event. This St.Patrick's day event has become a major part of the Mullingar St. Patrick's day festivities in Mullingar. It is renowned for being a high quality and entertaining event. The race starts on the main street at 10am with a great sense of excitement and atmosphere created. It also finished very centrally in Mullingar Park. logistically its perfect for the runners with only a short distance between the start and finish areas.
It is extremely well organised with runners treated to some great after treats within the park and presented to a great t-shirt and medal.

The 5k had just under 400 runners and the Half Marathon sold out 2 weeks in advance with over 1,600 runners. The event itself is a major fundraiser for the chosen charity, T.E.A.M. (Temporary Emergency Accommodation Midlands). 

The 5k race was won by Ken Foster of Mullingar Harriers in a time of 17;01... The women's winner was Theresa Hughes also of Mullingar Harriers in a time of 19:13

The Half Marathon was dominated from start to finish by Peter Somba of Dunboyne A.C.. Peter was 2nd in Bohermeen last week but took top spot here. Peter recorded 69;24 for his win. In 2nd place was hometown athlete Andrew Nevin from Mullingar. In 3rd was Ronan Potterton. The women's race was won by Fiona Stack of Raheny Shamrock A.C. in a time of 81:26. The women's race was a tight affair with 2nd placed Kate Kelly of Athlone A.C recording 81;33. Only seconds separated both. In 3rd place was Noreen Brouder of Sportsworld RC

Well done to the AON Mullingar Team for another great event. Many months of preparation went into this event in order to get the town of Mullingar ready for the 2,400 plus runners.
