Adare 10k 2022

RACE REPORT
The "Real" Adare 10K hosted by West Limerick AC was another cracking race and event. This is one Limerick's and Munsters tops 10k road races hostd by an athletics club. Even when covid restrictions were in place this event sold out in a couple of days. It's certainly a highlight event in the calendar. The course is pretty kind to Runners with all right hand turns. Runners headed off from Abbey Road leading on to the iconic and picturesque Adare village main street. From there they took on the country roads to make a complete loop coming back to the start where the finish line was also located. It is a runner friendly course.
Over 730 of the 1,000 registered took to the start line with great athletes from all over the country. The span of runners from around the country increases every year as the word spreads about this great race.
The men's winner was a one horse race with Jake O'Regan of St.Johns breaking the existing course record by 9 seconds. His time was 30:09. What was even more impressive was the way in which he finished. Jake battled a harsh wind into his face for the couple of K. Once he knew for sure that the course record was up for grabs and with the crowd behind him he accelerated home. In 2nd was Declan Mooreof Bilboa AC and 3rd was Barry Donovan of Cork Track club. The men's team winner with 4 to score were host club West Limerick AC.
The women's race was also a fine race within the main race itself. This year was filled with some great but just like the men's it was a day for course records.
The winner was Grace Lynch of Iveragh AC in a staggering time of 34:32 taking 2 mins off the course record. 2nd was Dymphna Ryan of Dundrum AC and 3rd was Mary Mulhare of Portlaoise AC . The women's team winners with 4 to score were Dooneen AC.
Racing is definitely back with a bang in Limerick and for the Adare 10k. Well done to all participants who took part and to West Limerick AC for hosting the event.
