RACE REPORT

The long established Adare 10k hosted by West Limerick AC was another cracker. This was the 24th running of the event that was certainly enjoyed by all. This event had sold out with over 800 entries many weeks back and it was easy to see why. Athletes from all parts of Ireland took the historic Adare village. The West Limerick club has a long tradition of producing quality runners and today they attracted many more to the village.

The race started at 1pm and the atmosphere was building from early morning as runners descended upon the village to collect their race numbers. As the race start time approached and all roads were ready for the 2018 Adare 10k, there was the feel of excited nervousness among runners on the start line. Runners were ready for the Challenge ahead. Then Bang.... the race was off and the nervous tension in the air had vanished along with the runners as they headed towards the centre of the village and into the local surrounds.

The race was followed with a lead car and commentary to feed back to the finish line as spectators waited to see who would eventually come into sight for the finish. The favourite and a big hit with the locals Sean Hehir had no problems in taking another Adare 10k title. Sean controlled the race from start to finish. Well done Sean. He was followed in 2nd Martin Hoare of Celbridge AC who has had a fine few months of racing especially with a strong and impressive win in the Amsterdam Half Marathon. In 3rd place was Sean Doyle of An Bru AC.

The ladies race was won by Grace Lynch who had a strong and impressive victory. Finishing 2nd was Shona Keane and 3rd was Ann McPhail of Doneen AC

Age categories and team prizes were all very competitive among club and individuals. There was well deserved team success for host club West Limerick AC with Declan Giuna leading the way. Dooneen AC took the ladies title. Team scoring was 4 to score for both male and female teams.
