EVENT REPORT

 

 

The 33rd Spar Omagh Half Marathon & 5k blasted off today in style. This is a hugely popular race that sells out every year. Over 3,500 registered and was bursting with capacity and atmosphere on both start lines today. A sea of runners took off for the Half Marathon at 9.30 with the 5k going 15 mins later. 

It is definitely an event with excitement and very much eagerly awaited every year. The demand for entries was at an all time high. Well done to Omagh Harriers for hosting a fabulous event. 
The race was won by Gary Hegarty of Strive Racing in a time of  66:50. This was an inspired run by Gary and blew a very talented field away. In 2nd place was a previous winner Sergiu Ciobanu of Clonliffe Harriers. In 3rd was Michale Fox in 3rd place. We had some fine racing in the Half Marathon. 

The women's winner was Jessica Craig of North Down AC. Closely behind was Claire McGiigan of Lifford Strabane AC. in 3rd was Helen McCready of Rosses AC.
