RACE REPORT

Another great 5k Race in Dublin City Centre today for the St. Patrick's Festival 5k race. The race attracted over 1,400 runners. This event had all the elements of a great race with a flat fast course, Big city race feel, top athletes, joggers, walkers and an electric atmosphere. This was a fantastic end to the Dublin St. Patrick's weekend festivities. The Race started and Finished at the Dept of Justice on St. Stephens Green. Runners from all Ireland and overseas lined up for the big start. The Start/Finish line area atmosphere was electric. Dave Hopper and Susan Walsh provided great commentary at the Finish line. Dave tracked the lead runners with a live link up to Susan at the Finish. There was a real sense of intrigue and suspense as to who would finally land back onto the green for the home Finish. Susan as ever provided extra excitement with her vast knowledge and experience of runners. Spectators were treated to fine entertainment. The Lord Mayors 5 Alive Challenge running group entered this race in vast numbers. This is a group that was set up by Dublin's Lord Mayor a number of years ago to promote healthy lifestyle and interaction through running. The group has now over 400 members.

The race was very competitive throughout the field as not only the top athletes were contending for places. Age category prizes were up for grabs. Many top Club runners battled for pride. The team winners for the Men were Raheny Shamrock AC and the ladies team winners were also Raheny Shamrock AC. There was also a corporate team prize. This was won by Bar Flies.
