RACE REPORT

Massive congratulations to Duhallow AC in hosting their inaugural 10 mile road race on a beautiful warm sunny Sunday afternoon in April, Spring really was in the air and everyone enjoyed it.
This event has not been without drama, first of all it had to be postponed from March due to the Beast of the East, then the location had to change from Duhallow to Newmarket resulting in a whole new set of logistics etc. Duhallow AC now in it's 21st year; rose to the challenge and conquered against all odds.
They worked really hard together as a team and produce what has been refered to as the "Next Ballycotton" - now - for those of us who were blessed to have ran in Ballycotton - we know how classic that road race was, sadly that chapter has closed but will remain with us for years and years to come, so for this event to be classed in the same league is really saying something and is a credit to the club.

The race started on the brow of a hill just past Hi-Lands on the outskirts of town, it was a very fast downhill start as the video will show

After 5.5 miles the athletes had to make a turn-around to head back in towards Newmarket - home, here is a few little snippets of the leaders, middle of the pack runners, the Legend that is Jerry Forde (1 of the very few men to have completed every single Ballycotton 10 miler) and the lovely Maggie Dunne.

From the start it was a close battle between 2 Dublin clubs - Clonliffe Harriers and DSD with DSD's Miko Tonosa eventually winning by only 3 seconds from Clonliffe's Sergiu Ciobanu , Local man Alan O'Shea-Bantry AC took the 3rd place from St Finbarr's Michael Corbett. 1st 10 men finished in under 60 mins - not too bad at all.
In the ladies race it was Iveragh AC's Grace Lynch who took the tittle and was also under the 60 mins - well done to Grace. Then is was Fiona Santry from east Cork AC in 2nd place followed by Leevale lady Carol Finn in 3rd.
Watch this space athletes - this race is going to grow judging by all the compliments and positive feedback from yesterday.
It has everything going for it - good course, safe roads, lots of marshals who know how to do their job, plenty of water stations on route, a great buzz as the middle of the pack runners would not normally get to see the front runners at all but on this course - they can, a fantastic spread of food after and a very friendly atmosphere - what else does a runner need
:-)
Please enjoy a bit of finish line video up to 1h 06mins.
