Drogheda & District AC Christmas 5k

RACE REPORT

The First year of the Drogheda & District AC Christmas 5k was a huge success. The festive event was a big hit with all who attended. There was fun for everybody. Adults, Children and pets all took part. The Race started in the New Lourdes Stadium Running track. Runners and their families turned up from early morning to take in the atmosphere. This was an ideal location to Start and Finish the race with Music, Face painting, Hot Beverages and of course, festive Mulled wine was on offer to keep the body and minds warm. There was a great splash of festive colour as many participants wore their Red and White T Shirts, which fed in well with the Red tartan track.

The Race itself started at 11am and headed out the Balmakenny Rd for the out and back course. This was a relatively flat course. Runners re entered the Stadium to be greeted by family, friends and supporters as they completed a lap of Honour of the track to finish. The race had plenty of local talent on show from Drogheda & Disctrict AC, Boyne AC, Dunleer AC, Duleek & District AC, Balbriggan & District AC and North East Runners. Clubs from further a field also attended. Dublin Clubs Civil Service Harriers, Clonliffe Harriers, and Skerries. Meath Clubs Trim AC, Navan AC and many more club singlets were on show.

The race itself was very competitive with Colin Maher taking top spot and Darragh Green hot on his heels. The Ladies race was also a classy affair with Ciara Durkan taking the title. Pamela Howard from Local Club Drogheda & District AC finished strong in 2nd place. Age category prizes were awarded to the top 3 in each category.
